It is 73 years since the UK government published this advice on silicosis risk reduction for stonemasons.
The 1949 guidance contains remarkably similar advice to the current guidance: wet working, exhaust ventilation, segregation and respirators.
If the advice is essentially the same after 73 years and people are still developing preventable life threatening disease, the All Party Parliamentary Group’s current call for evidence on silica risk reduction is welcome. Hopefully it’s work will help to protect the next generation of workers.
