Why is Health and Safety important in manufacturing?

Proactive Health and Safety management will benefit productivity, prevent occupational disease, and help to prevent incidents that may lead to possible reputational damage or compensation claims.

Our team has experience of working for the HSE.  This provides us with a unique insight that enables us to ensure that policies and practices are in line with current regulations and provide effective evidence of compliance in the event of future legal action.

Manufacturing is a varied industry where workers may be at risk from a range of Health and Safety risks; noise, chemical exposure, dust, fumes, musculoskeletal issues, and COVID-19 amongst others.

As we have worked with a large number of manufacturers, we understand that if you are part of a larger international business you may also be under pressure from your own internal audits as well as from HSE inspections.  We can help you prepare for internal audits and put together a plan that meets and exceeds both your company’s policies and the HSE’s requirements.

The areas we can help you with include:

  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and/or review of your current policies and procedures
  • Help with focused risk assessments (manual handling, COSHH, DSEAR, fire, asbestos, lead, legionella)
  • OHSAS 45001 preparation and compliance
  • Help with the management of chemical and physical hazards including dust, silica, DEEE, noise and vibration
  • Complete personal air monitoring for COSHH compliance (including activities involving woodworking or respirable crystalline silica)
  • Complete noise and vibration surveys
  • Noise surveys
  • Dust surveys
  • Specific regulatory advice on the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002, the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002
  • Providing the guides and checklists you will need to maintain effective health and safety standards onsite
  • Delivering training courses for your workers, site managers and directors
  • Making sure your plant or factory is COVID-19 secure

Our team includes face fit-testers who can help with queries related to Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and fit-testing.
